
- Take ZELNORM exactly as your healthcare provider tells you to take it
- The usual dose of ZELNORM is 1 tablet 2 times each day, taken by mouth
- Take ZELNORM at least 30 minutes before a meal
If you have not had adequate control of symptoms after 4 to 6 weeks, discontinue use and talk with your doctor.
If you take too much ZELNORM, call your healthcare provider or
go to the nearest hospital emergency room right away
When taking any medication, talk with your doctor. And as with any medication, side effects are possible. When taking ZELNORM, major cardiovascular events such as stroke, heart attack and death from stroke or heart attack have happened in adults who had an increased risk of having a cardiovascular event. If you have any signs or symptoms of a heart attack, stroke, mini stroke (TIA) or angina, get emergency help right away. And tell your healthcare provider right away if you are told that you have narrowing in the blood vessels that carry blood to your heart (coronary artery disease). ZELNORM™ (tegaserod) is a prescription medicine used to treat adult women less than 65 years of age with irritable bowel syndrome with constipation (IBS-C).
ZELNORM is for use in adult women under 65 years of age who do not have a history of ischemic cardiovascular disease and who have no more than one risk factor for cardiovascular disease. Cardiovascular disease risk factors include active smoking, high blood pressure or history of being treated with medicines that lower blood pressure, high cholesterol or are taking medicine to lower your blood cholesterol levels, history of diabetes, age 55 years or over, or obesity. Talk to your healthcare provider about risk factors you may have for a major cardiovascular event before you start taking ZELNORM.
The most common side effects of ZELNORM are headache, stomach-area (abdominal) pain, nausea, diarrhea, gas, indigestion, and dizziness.
Before you take ZELNORM, tell your healthcare provider:
